Specimen Preparation and Shipping Guidelines

Shipping and Labeling Instructions

NOTICE: Hazardous or pathogenic tissue samples must be discussed prior to submission and indicated on the data sheet at time of submission.

FFPE Processing and Embedding

Carefully label cassettes in PENCIL only. Ink is washed off during processing. Histospring is not responsible for cassettes labeled in ink.
Keep the writing on cassettes minimal and legible, but include unique identifiers for each cassette or sample. Include a Word doc or excel spreadsheet with a corresponding list of labeled samples for verification.
Fix specimens for 12-24 hours (may require greater fixation time based on tissue size).
Transfer specimens into 70% alcohol. This is recommended for long-term storage and required for transport.
Specimens should have an inner container, as well as an outer spill proof container (can be a zip locked bag) and be boxed and labelled appropriately for shipping and handling.
Labels: carefully label containers with cassettes as to the contents (alcohol etc.).

Frozen Samples

Frozen tissue can be embedded by the user or embedded by us.
Make sure there is enough dry ice in the package for 24 hr. and ship for overnight delivery.
